Time Out

We have graduated from Baby to Little Boy.

Door knob covers have been purchased and a gate has gone up to prevent entrance to the hallway. Cooking has become almost impossible do to extreme curiosity.  He wants to know about EVERYTHING that is going on.

Thus the introduction of Time Out.

Time Out is a little place on the floor behind the couch. Little Boy has to sit there sometimes because he can't control himself.

I wasn't sure that a 15-month-old could grasp the concept very well when I instituted the new policy.  But I needed some kind of discipline technique because "NO," "DON'T TOUCH," and "STOP PULLING THE DOG'S TAIL!" wasn't working all the time.

However, my doubts were assuaged the other day when Little Boy wouldn't keep his Legos or his passy out of the dog water bowl.  I told him "NO, NO, NO!" several times, and when this didn't work, I sternly started marching towards him.

Little Boy quickly dropped everything, ran over to the little piece of floor behind the couch, and put his bottom right on it.

I was totally shocked.  And thrilled that my discipline technique was actually working.

So I went over to him and went through routine of asking him if he was sorry, and then telling him Mommy loves him, and are you ready for a hug?

He then pouted his lips, stuck out his index finger, and said, "NO, NO, NO!

Guess there is still some work to do.

Cameras Are Mostly Untrustworthy

We haven't been able to get a good shot of this baby lately.

He really hates the camera.

He wants to either completely hide from it, or take it and kill it.

Needless to say, this new development has made blogging a little difficult.

The Latest

The market is down, anxiety is high, but Baby learned a new sign today.

"EAT."

Yes, that's right folks, the Baby can now tell us when he is hungry with one simple hand sign.

He even runs over to his high chair when he makes the sign to make sure that we get the full gist of what he is trying to tell us.

And because he has been rewarded for his latest venture into the world of shared communication, he will now take one bite of whatever he has been given to satisfy his hunger before he signs the word, "DONE," so that he can get down out of his high chair and take a lap around the house before he signs the word "EAT" once more.

We now have to teach the kid the hand sign for, "YOU ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION."

Any suggestions on what the appropriate hand sign might be?

Oh, I Can't Stop

Here's another one that's all over the internet today.

Boy, am I glad I am not running for Vice-President.

I Heart My Garden

Every night after Baby eats dinner we do our gardening.  It's my favorite part of the day.  Baby has really taken to his gardening chores.  Less of the yard is going into his mouth as he is realizing that dirt isn't a snack and snails taste like, well, snails.

Yes, we do occasionally take a break from the hard work to relax and read a book.

Life at our new house has been fantastic.  And Mikah is such a happy little boy.  We can't wait for all of our visitors over the next couple of months!
